To proceed in good faith: a Franciscan Friar deciding quickly, but prudently
What would you do?
TMaybe you’ve had a similar experience to this: A friend asks you to pick him up at the airport and take him to a job interview. It’s a job he really needs and wants. So, conscientiously, you leave early for the airport. You may have forgotten your cell phone, but that doesn’t matter much as service to the airport is unreliable anyway.
On the freeway, a truck ahead of you taking a sharp curve, and spills some of its cargo - building material, including some nails and bricks. You swerve out of the way, and realize that any other drivers behind you will likely be endangered by the debris. The nails could cause a blowout, the bricks could result in an accident. With no cell phone, you can’t call 911, and the Freeway Patrol would probably not arrive in time to prevent an accident anyway.
What would you do? This is not a test to determine right or wrong. It is an exercise in real pastoral ministry and some possible responses. When you submit your answer, you'll be able to see what he did and you'll be able to see images of San Damiano, Assisi, Italy.
